System Administrator Day
Yes, today is System Administrator Appreciation Day. Thanks to the folks at Wired for alerting us to this obscure and geeky Holiday.
Since we have our own SysAdmin (Rob) we would really like to give Rob a very big amount of props for all he does. Rob actually holds a lot of responsibilities here at TGM. Anything related to the site, network, etc is usually Rob’s doing. Not to mention he’s also “El Presidente”. Really, this guy does a ton. He never stops working for us.
If it wasn’t for Rob, all of this great media to listen to, read and watch would not be here. If it wasn’t for Rob, there would be a lot wrong with the site. Why? Because I sometimes break things on the back end and, Rob swoops in, clicks the mouse a few times, presses a button or two and things are magically fixed!
So today, if you are at your office and you see one of your SysAdmins tell them why you love them. Here at TGM, we’re giving some massive props and much love to our very own Rob. We would also like to present Rob with this video to show our appreciation.
Yes Geeks and Geekettes, Rob truly is our Captain James T Kirk…Tiberius to his friends.
Edit by Leto: There isn’t a “Useless guy that does nothing but complain about stuff day” for me, is there?
Edit by Rob: Kirk, Star Trek, and WWF Music playing in the background. Sho Aweshum
Meet the Geek: Dieoxide from Off the Set
Today we’re introducing you to Dieoxide from the Off the Set blog. If you want to check on the other geeks you can meet here at TGM, you can always look here.
TGM: Before the geek you are to be..answer me these questions three..what is your name? What are you doing at TGM? What is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?
Dieoxide
ieoxide is the name your getting out of me, I’m just hanging around at TGM now finding news for TGM and maybe new viewers because of TGM, and for the last one, an estimate of 10meters per second. Fine, I cheated and googled it, but hey, Google is your friend!
TGM: Like some other Affiliates, you are one of our younger guys. How old are you if you don’t mind?
Dieoxide: 274. Nah, but really, 15.
TGM:How do you feel being one of the younger crowd but, getting involved of the new types of media so early?
Dieoxide: I feel normal actually when you find how many people are close to your age.
TGM:Do you feel like your generation is going to really move with new media in a few years?
Dieoxide: Depends on who your talking about, some of my generation will move with the new media, others will just ignore it, or some might even deny it’s existance.
TGM:Now, blogging is your deal. You are learning the ropes and getting used to things with your blog Off the Set. How is it working for you as you are learning a bit more about the geeky blogging world?
Dieoxide:Since I joined TGM, I’ve envolved in writing and am writing more mature and out there stuffs!
TGM: Are you finding writing hard or, is it something you are enjoying?
Dieoxide:Depends on my mood, if I’m having a bad day, I usually can’t write to save my own life, sometimes I can though and if I’m on a good day like today, I can find a buch of articles to write about, which I save for another day!
TGM: Do you think writing is a career for you? If not, what do you want to do as a job?
Dieoxide:Not as a career, no, but as a hobby, yes. I’m actually thinking of architecture if I stay focused in school.
TGM: What is your “guilty pleasure” on the internet?
Dieoxide:Warcraft … you judge me, I kill you! Achmed the Dead Terriost everyone!
TGM: Like so many others, you are a gaming geeky type. Spill it, buddy. Whats your favorite game of the moment?
Dieoxide:Like OMG like you like don’t know. Warcraft! I had to do Steffie Candace.
(TGM edit..if no one noticed, Candace is the one heading up these interviews. Candace’s note; Thanks Dieoxide…Steffie is quoted more then anyone else I think.)
TGM: What game are you most looking forward to?
Dieoxide:I have two close to eachother, Wrath of the Lich King and Conquest of Heroes.

Vimeo Bans “Game Videos”
Yesterday, the Vimeo staff blog announced that they will no longer allow “game videos” to be uploaded to the site. A direct quote from the blog explains this; “The Vimeo staff has decided that we are no longer going to allow gaming videos on Vimeo. Specifically, we are no longer going to allow game walk-throughs, game strategy videos, depictions of player vs player battles, raids, fraps, or any other video gaming videos that simply depict individuals playing a video game. Videos falling into this category will be subject to deletion as of September 1st; new videos of this type will be removed.”
However, Vimeo did say that machinima will be allowed on the site; “We currently do not feel that Machinima films fall under the category of gaming videos described above and, therefore, assuming compliance with our site’s general terms & conditions, we will continue to accept such videos on Vimeo. We are not, at this time, banning films that fall into the Machinima genre.”
If you’re one of our audience members or, a TGM Affiliate who uses Vimeo there are options to look at. Many of you make machinima only so, this should not be an issue. The Geek Media always has heavily supported We Game and, encourage any of you Vimeo users who do post these types of videos to head over to We Game.

Why Project Lore Will and Will Not Work
Alright World of Warcraft fans, there’s a new site for you all to check out. It’s called Project Lore. The site says “Five dudes. Four cameras. One World of Warcraft.” They’re two episodes into the project and, have already covered Hellfire Ramparts and Heroic Slave Pens.
I’m sure a few of you scratched your head at Hellfire Ramparts and Heroic Slave Pens. I know even I was thinking “Yeah…I did that a year ago.” The content is outdated. Many WoW players looking for game guides are looking for end-game PVP or, end-game content. Currently, heroic setting dungeons are not end-game content. I think Kara is even a debate for end-game these days. (That was a joke)
Second, there’s some serious competition. Sites like WeGame.com , and WarcraftMovies.com are full of in-game guides for World of Warcraft and, other games. Not to mention these sites also contain strategy for end-game content from top guilds. That’s some tough competition to go against when you’re covering content that was out with the release of The Burning Crusade.

Sci-fi Geeks Have a New Place on the Web
Nathaniel Payne of Nerdflood.com alerted me to the fact that all of you sci-fi lovers have a new home away from home. Tor.com re-launched their site as a small social network for sci-fi lovers.
What does the site feature? A blog with multiple contributors, free stories, an art gallery photo section and a message board. Looks like sci-fi lovers all over the world have a new place to geek out.
For a much more comprehensive review and, more information check out Nerdflood.
May the Schwartz be with you! …Wait, that’s not right, is it?
Changes On the Way
Thanks to the on-going feedback from our friends at FriendFeed and Twitter, we have some great suggestions on the site’s look and feel. The FriendFeed thread is still moving along with great feedback. The Twitter is still opened for @ replies.
As you can see, some basic changes have already been made (Thanks Rob!) and, more changes are on the way. Probably sometime tomorrow we’ll look over the suggestions made and decide which ones are going to be carried out. We’ll be choosing which changes take priority as well.
Slowly but surely, you guys will see some changes in the look and feel of the site. Hey, if you have a suggestion get yourself on FriendFeed or give a tweet to @TheGeekMedia on Twitter! Thanks again!
