EA Announces Layoffs, Hefty Spore Earnings

Multiplayerblog over at multiplayerblog.mtv.com reported just the other day that, despite fantastic sales and earnings from Spore, EA is going to be laying off aproximately 600 workers in the coming weeks, which ammounts to about 6% of their total work force. EA’s CEO John Riccitello claims that his company is “bullish on the game sector overall” One can only hope this does not affect their most recent MMO success “Warhammer Online” or one of their developing projects through their Bioware branch known as The Old Republic.

Fallout 3 Worth Every Penny!

The last few hours of my life have been utterly devoted to the enjoyment of Fallout 3, and they have been worth it. I haven’t gotten far at all in the game, most of the time’s been devoted to exploring the system and how characters interact excetra, but I can say from experience that this game has the systems in place to make a serious impact on the roleplaying gaming community. It’s $49.99 in most stores, with $24.99 for the strategy guide if that’s the way you swing. If you were on the fence about spending the money for the game, do it, it’s worth the cash. As a side note, watching a zombie’s head burst into peices at point blank range from a volley of assault rifle shots is so beautiful, it nearly brings me to tears.

World of Warcraft: Dual Specializations

Blizzard’s given us a tentative date for their long awaited system that allows people to have two difference talent specializations at one. So far we’ve been told that it could be as early as their 3.1.1 patch, right after the launch of Wrath of the Lich King. We’ve also found out that as it stands, the switching shouldn’t actually cost any gold for players looking to switch, and there may not be a cooldown on the switch. All good news, hopefully this goes through as it stands.

Brand Spanking New Star Wars MMO!

We finally have some information on the new Star Wars MMO that Bioware and Lucasarts is developing. The title; Star Wars: The Old Republic. The setting is new, and the battle looks to be a major Sith power versus the Old Republic and the Jedi Knights. It’s set about 300 years after the original KotOR game, where a great Sith Empire has emerged from deep space when the Republic was at a weak point. They make a successful invasion into the Core and even onto the surface of Coruscant, and eventually a treaty is signed giving over many planets and solar systems to the Sith. This sets up for the game’s conflict between the unrelenting might of the Sith and the militarized but bruised Republic defense forces and the Jedi.

It’s unknown yet as to whether or not what players will have as to race or class choices, although it’s already assumed that they will have both Jedi and Sith Knights availible for play. You can find the website for this new MMO at http://www.swtor.com.
