What is Reality Compared to You?

Often times, a quote will get me moving. This little snippet comes from something I’ve heard probably hundreds of times. It’s one of my favorite songs but, the lyrics don’t always make sense. However, the song jumped out at me with these 5 words ; “What’s reality compared to me?” In this day and age our reality is augmented, fragmented and, moved more so now than ever before.

Complete strangers become best friends. Best friends become sworn enemies. Regular people become super heroes. Unknowns become celebrities overnight. The pen used to be mightier than the sword. Today, a keyboard is a lethal weapon. One voice out of thousands can turn a tide. A signature on a piece of paper can change the world.

The God-given talents we’re born with have the capability to create entire worlds….and, some already have. The driving force that pushes a person to create seems to be in overdrive today. Every thing we touch is creating something. Our mind imagines it and, we find a way to make it happen. Everyone has their moment to create something. Many people take the moment and use it…creating a new “something” on a constant basis to share with the world.

New Media…that’s what they call it. User-created content. User *created*. There’s that word again. It’s our platform. It is a way for us to create whatever we want. It’s a way for us to extend part of ourselves to almost the entire world. It’s a way to tell everyone what we feel, what we believe and, what we create.

I have seen a kid fresh out of High School become the CEO of a company. I have seen a Sixteen Year Old decide to make a change in his life and, stop his bad habits (*those* bad habits). I have seen a man create a world with a keyboard. I have seen a woman decide the direction her life was going needed to change.

All of those things have something in common. Every one of them spawned from someone’s creation. Someone got their feelings out into the world. Someone used the platform they had. Their reality was changed for the better because of a “me”.

Which leads me to challenge you to ask yourself this question; “What’s reality compared to me?”
