Section: Gaming News, Features, Rumors, Consoles, PS2, PS3, Wii, Xbox-360, Handhelds, DS, PSP, Handhelds-Other, Gear, Accessories, Controllers, Ads & Media, Print, Advertisements
If you never wanted to grow up, perhaps you should consider consoling yourself by checking out what could be the leaked Toys R Us Black Friday 2008 ad listing that is appearing on BlackFriday.info, Black Friday Ads and CAG. However, ad scans have not shown up so we don’t know There are quite a few interesting sales on toys for big kids there. In particular, the sales on some select electronics, MP3 players and video games are worth checking out. If this is legit, then Toys R Us is really trying to lure in customers.
There’s also some additional good news. Black Friday Ads is reporting that some of the items in the sale circular will be eligible for free shipping if you purchase them from Toys R Us’ website during the sale. That site is also reporting that, if you stop by the Toys R Us website at midnight on Wednesday, November 27, 2008, you can there see special, secret sales that will be in stores on Black Friday.
And now, for some of the supposed sale items at Toys R Us, as reported by both Black Friday Ads, BlackFriday.info and CAG. The game deal listings on the sites aren’t very specific (and there was no scan to double check with), so you’ll have to check the official ad once it is released. Also, some of these items may be part of a doorbuster deal, so again, check the official ad once it is released to be sure about the prices.

Start planning - GameStop’s Black Friday 2008 ad has been leaked
Section: Gaming News, Consoles, GameCube, PS2, PS3, Wii, Xbox-360, PCs, Windows, Handhelds, DS, GBA, PSP, Ads & Media, Print, Advertisements
Well, the most anticipated video game related Black Friday ad may have just emerged today. Both Kotaku and BlackFriday.info are reporting that GameStop’s ad circular for Black Friday 2008 has been leaked onto the internet. Aside from the rather obvious “Buy 2 Get 1 Free” used game deal that GameStops are known for, there are also a few extra notable sales. Plus, GameStops will give an extra $40 credit to people who trade in PS3s, Wiis or Xbox 360s. Extra credit will also be given if you trade in games - 3 games get 10% extra credit, 4 gets 20% extra and 5 gets 30% extra.
You have to be careful when checking the ad though. While some deals are really good, there are quite a few advertisements for games that aren’t discounted. So be sure to comparison shop before committing to buying a game from GameStop’s Black Friday ad. The ad also highlights that GameStops will have 2,500 possible video game items for under $20 and, if you don’t mind picking up a preowned game as a gift, they likely will. However, a lot of these 2,500 items under $20 are that price everyday, so you don’t have to worry about the sales.
Also, GameStop will be donating to charity this holiday season. The ad mentions that GameStop will donate $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation every time someone buys a gift card between November 3 and December 26, 2008. It also states that up to a $300,000 donation will be made to Make-A-Wish due to this promotion.
To make things easier for you, Gamertell has poured over the possible GameStop Black Friday 2008 ad and picked out the notable deals.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix release dates confirmed
Section: Gaming News, Consoles, PS3, Xbox-360, Updates, Playstation-Store, Xbox-Live

That was fast. The earlier announcement of the Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix “branded experience” that is up as of yesterday (November 19, 2008) on Xbox Live hinted that the game would release on the Xbox Live Arcade on November 26, 2008. We assumed that the PlayStation Network release would follow a day later but not anymore.
In a press release just sent out by Capcom, the company has confirmed that the XBLA version will in fact launch on the November 26, 2008, with the PSN version launching one day prior, marking the game’s release on November 25, 2008, (next Tuesday) instead of the usual PSN release day (next Thursday).
The release dates were confirmed as a part of Capcom’s “Season of Street Fighter,“ it’s celebration of the game’s release. The “season” promises to bring in a variety of downloadable content, as well as musical tracks, and of course, the “newly revamped digital destination points” such as the all new “branded destination” and the Capcom Storefront on PSN.
1UP dived a little further into the DLC saying that the PlayStation Network will receive a hip-hop inspired soundtrack that will be downloadable for free. For the Xbox 360 fighters, Pinball FX already has its Street Fighter themed table while Uno will receive “power move” cards.
And we promise this is the last time we will talk about the game short of a review.

Little Magician’s Magic Adventure Magic Academy enrollment begins in February ‘09
Section: Gaming News, Handhelds, DS, Game-Companies, Developers, Publishers, Genres, 3D, Role-Playing, Sim
Back in July 2008, Gamertell first reported on Konami’s forthcoming Animal Crossing/magic sim called Little Magician’s Magic Adventure. Now that the February 2009 release date creeps ever closer, more information on the actual gameplay of this new DS sim has been released.
Little Magician’s Adventure may seem like an Animal Crossing clone at first glance, due to the character design similarities and the ability to live in the Magic Academy town filled with other unusual characters and students. But, Little Magician’s Adventure has a sense of purpose, as opposed to Animal Crossing‘s main goal of paying off Tom Nook. In Little Magician’s Magic Adventure, you customize your character and its home with over 1,500 items, you can make friends with 150 different NPCs, learn magic spells and undertake 52 quests.
The Nintendo WiFi Connection aspect also sounds interesting. The press release almost makes it sound like you can go on quests with friends. It also seems to encorporate some kind of chat program, as the press release mentions a global magic alphabet that will let you talk with people around the world.
Personally, I’m in. I love Animal Crossing, but sometimes get bored. After a while, it feels like you’ve done everything. A game like Little Magician’s Magic Adventure, where a life sim is incorporated with actual goals and missions, sounds like a wonderful change of pace.

Ultimate Band setlist and launch date announced
Section: Gaming News, Consoles, Wii, Handhelds, DS, Genres, Music

Are you a tween? Do you like Disney, music, and rhythm games? Are you afraid your parents/allowance won’t cover the cool $200 or so to nab Guitar Hero: World Tour or Rock Band 2? Well, look no further, kid, Disney’s got your game. The company announced the full setlist and official release date - November 25, 2008 - today, in order to whet the appetites of younger players and their Christmas shopping parents.
1Up has the full setlist up, and it’s chock full of variety. Since the game requires no extra peripherals (no more goofy plastic instruments! hurrah!) it may have serious potential this holiday - even in an over saturated market.
PETA launches Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals
Section: Gaming News, Features, Opinions, PCs, Ads & Media, Web, Genres, Flash, Web-Sites

Oh dear, it seems that PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has gone and protested Cooking Mama, perhaps one of the least controversial games in the world. The organization has launched a flash game titled Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals, in which players go through a series of bloody mini games that involve killing and cooking a Thanksgiving turkey.
1Up has the scoop, including a statement associated with the game, which is supposedly intended to “urge Majesco” to make a vegetarian version of the popular game series. I actually think that’s kind of a cool idea (since I’m a vegetarian myself, but not for PETA reasons), but I find the whole thing bizarrely hilarious.
Seriously, doesn’t PETA have bigger fish to fry? Shouldn’t they go after Big Buck Hunter or something? The 1Up writer suggested they take issue with Link (of Zelda fame) and his blatant chicken abuse - I can just see it now.

Lucky Europeans get LocoRoco 2 Flash minigame
Section: Gaming News, PCs, Windows, Game-Companies, Developers, Publishers, Genres, 2D, Action, Flash, Online, Puzzle, Web-Sites, Official-Sites
If you’re a LocoRoco fan, you don’t have to head to the PlayStation Store to sample a demo of LocoRoco 2‘s gameplay. Instead, you can visit Spil Games’ Games.co.uk site to play a Flash LocoRoco 2 minigame. It isn’t up for very long though. When LocoRoco 2 for the PSP comes out on November 21, 2008 in Europe, the Flash minigame will be removed from Spil Games’ site.
Its fairly simple to play. You use the left and right arrow keys on your computer to control the actions, like the shoulder buttons you use for the original LocoRoco and LocoRoco 2 games. There are six different levels to play, and the goal in each level is to make flowers bloom by rolling over a wilted flower with the proper color LocoRoco.
Its cute, but its somewhat difficult to play. LocoRoco and LocoRoco 2 are games which really need to be on a PSP, so you can use the shoulder buttons to control everything. Trying to play through a mini level using the arrow keys on a laptop just isn’t the same. For some reason, I couldn’t get the jumps to execute like I could in the original LocoRoco 2. The Flash minigame was more frustrating than fun. Still, if you need a quick LocoRoco-fix while waiting for LocoRoco 2, it’ll do.

Battlefield Heroes closes beta, retreats until 2009
Section: Gaming News, PCs, Windows, Genres, Action, Shooter, Online

All of you lucky beta soldiers that were recruited to participate in the engagement of bug scouting and reporting, please report to the front office to be relieved of duty. That’s right kids, as of 6 p.m. CET, November 14, 2008, the free-to-play shooter being published by Electronics Arts and developed by Digital Illusions have shut down their closed beta to “focus on polishing up the backend,“ according to a post on the game’s official site.
We have received lots of great feedback from our beta testers. So much so that we are now ready to enter our next phase. On Friday evening (6pm CET) we will be closing down the current Closed Beta and moving our focus to polishing the backend. So for a while there will be no closed beta available to play. We expect to re-open the beta early next year.
Battlefield Heroes is a multiplayer online shooter that is planned to gain support from micro-transactions the same way a lot of free to play MMOs that you normally see offered on websites are.
The game’s look is that of the cartoonish nature popularized by Valve’s Team Fortress 2. For players outside of the closed beta, this can only be regarded as good news as the game is approaching it’s final stages before release.

Best Buy’s Black Friday 2008 ad either awesome or hoax
Section: Gaming News, Features, Rumors, Consoles, PS2, PS3, Wii, Xbox-360, PCs, Windows, Handhelds, DS, PSP, Ads & Media, Print, Genres, 2D, 3D, Action, Adventure, Casual, Children’s, Fighting, FPS, Shooter, MMO, Music, Party, Puzzle, Role-Playing, Sports, Sim

There are two sides to Black Friday ads. There are ones where you can instantly tell they are the real deal and then there are questionable ads which look authentic but are just a hoax.
The Best Buy 2008 Black Friday ad, which has just popped up on the internet falls into the later category.
If it is real, then there are going to be some fantastic video game deals at Best Buy stores this season. We’ve looked through the ad and created a list of what this “possible” Black Friday 2008 Best Buy’s deals are. Please note that, in a few instances, a game’s title or platform may not be accurate due to the bad quality of the ad scan.
GTA IV downloadable content, Chinatown Wars pushed to Spring 2009
Section: Gaming News, Consoles, Xbox-360, Handhelds, DS, Game-Companies, Publishers, Genres, 3D, Action, Shooter

MTV’s Multiplayer Blog brings us some sad news from BMO Capital Markets Conference today (November 13, 2008). Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick told the people there that GTA: Chinatown Wars would be released by the end of April 2009 and the Xbox exclusive downloadable content for GTA IV would be pushed back until Spring of 2009.
Zelnick did say the DLC portion is almost complete but extra time is needed in order to make it truly special. No specific reason was given for the sudden delay of Chinatown Wars.
As disappointing as that is, we can take solace in remembering all the huge titles that have come out over the past month or so. It was hinted earlier by Variety during an interview with Dan Houser that the release date for the DLC could be pushed back. All is well though because we’ve already have a boatload of games to play before the end of the year anyway. We can wait a few more months to tour more districts of Liberty City’s underbelly.
