Diablo III lead designer Jay Wilson and World of Warcraft (WoW) production director J. Allen Brack recently took to the stage at a BlizzCon 2008 press conference in California to answer fan questions about Blizzard Entertainment’s highly anticipated sequel and its ever popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) respectively.
In addition to confirming that Blizzard is looking to monetize Battle.net — news that was later elaborated on with confirmation that Diablo III won’t be subscription based — Brack responded to the recent confusion regarding the discovery of a Wrath of the Lich King beta file baring the title “Paid Character Customization.”
So, will the most successful subscription-based MMORPG of all time be seeing microtransactions (a la the Cash Shop in Nexon’s MapleStory) in the future? Yes, says Brack, according to WarCry.
After dodging the question initially, Brack eventually returned to the issue to confirm that WoW will be getting paid character customization options but the exact details have yet to be worked out.
