Meet The Geek: Mifio from The MMO Show
Part of the on-going “Meet the Geek” series, introducing you to our Affiliates here at TGM. Today, we’re introducing you to Mifio from The MMO Show
TGM: Easy part first. What’s your name and what geeky thing do you do?
Mifio:My alias’ are Mifio and Mufutu. But my real name is Matthew Iannone, and I do quite a few geeky things. I co host a podcast named The MMO Show, the other host is named Metaldragon. I play an MMO known as World of Warcraft, and I’m a huge fan of the lore, and spend a lot of my time reading about it or listening to The Ancient of Lore, or The Lorekeepers.
TGM:You’re one of our younger Affiliates. Do you mind telling us how old you are?
Mifio:I am 15. And now my question is how is it impressive when there are the uber smart kids who get into college at age 12?
TGM: Those kids are impressive too but, it’s pretty impressive that someone as young as you are is getting so involved in new media when you could be doing a whole slew of other things. We think it’s pretty cool.
TGM:Most people at your age aren’t into stuff like podcasting or a lot of the new style of media. What got you into this?
Mifio:Candace Holly, formerly known as Menuet, actually brought me into new media. When I started listening to Wcradio. Candace’s show was the one I listened to the most. And when she left Wcradio for TGM. I followed. And I was introduced to the wide world of podcasting. And after listening to such gems as RnD, The X (which is a discontinued show by Candace ‘Menuet’ Holly,) and Epic Dolls. I really wanted to get into podcasting. So I bought a crappy set up, grabbed a co host, and here I am!
TGM:You want to make a career out of this, what do you want to do?
Mifio:I actually want to be a voice actor. Its something I’ve wanted to be ever since a young kid. However, if I cannot get a job as a voice actor. I’d love to be a DJ or a Talk show host on the radio. I don’t care how much money they make. Radio is something I’ve always wanted to do, (next to voice acting) and I’m sticking too it.
TGM: Your other big thing is being a gamer, what is your favorite genre of gaming?
Mifio:To be truthful? I like all genres of gaming. Every genre is so different, its rather hard to compare them. However. I mostly play Action/Adventure games, shooter games, as well as platformers. Some games I like are Call of Duty 4, Gears of War, Psychonauts, Warcraft (The RTS’), Team Fortress 2, Tomb Raider (The original, as well as Anniversary,) Metroid Prime, (Never played two or three, so the original) Super Smash Bros., And Soul Caliber 3 (Go Link!!!)
TGM:What upcoming game are you most looking forward to?
Mifio:Fallout 3 by far. I loved Oblivion and the previous Fallouts, and considering Fallout 3 is made by the people who made Oblivion. It WILL be epic win.
TGM: Do you see gaming becoming something more “mainstream” as time goes on?
Mifio:Yes I do. Seeing as the the society of gamers has grown so much since the first games came out. I will assume that gaming will become mainstream, then finally become the norm. I’m hoping 50 years from now. Everyone will be a gamer. I’m also hoping 50 years from now, Rick Rolls will be dead.
TGM:What’s one of your favorite memories involving gaming?
Mifio:Getting my first level 60 three years after the launch of World Of Warcraft. (And yes, I have been playing three years straight of World of Warcraft)
TGM:What is one of your worst gaming moments?
Mifio:Finding out my nickname in my guild in World of Warcraft is Muffins. Because Mufutu is too hard to say. And just so you don’t ask. The flavor of the Muffin is Mint, which is another joke from one of my other characters named Mintukay.
TGM:What do you think of “e sports” or professional gaming?
Mifio:I personally do not have an opinion on it. Its not something I’m terribly interested in. However, if its what they do to make a living? More power to them. It’s not something I would like to do with my life. I’d rather play video games casually.
