(MtD) Artist Review: Beats Antique
Beats Antique is a group that fuses middle eastern music with down tempo hip hop, jazz, and a little bit of classical thrown in for good measure. The group’s songs are reminiscent of 1930’s and 40’s music while adding a modern electronic flair. They have quickly become one of my favorite artists. The music moves from fun tracks such as “Roustabout” to the darker “Slow” which means they are a group that fits my changing moods.
Group bio: “Beats Antique creates a definitive union between the old and new. Tribal Derivations is centred in Middle Eastern bellydance, down tempo hip hop, old school jazz, classical Indian and North African Gnawa music. Zoe Jakes, an innovative tribal and tribal fusion belly dancer, has co-produced, with Sidecar Tommy and David Satori, a refreshing musical take on an antique aesthetic.” (via)
