Does the Bias of Gaming Exec’s Matter?

I recently saw a very interesting article over on Massively.com talking about an small research article over on GamePolitics.com that talked a bit about gaming executives and who they’ve donated to in this presidential campaign. I took my sweet time reading this as I do most things that actually affect the real world, and ended up thinking about the purpose of the article more than what the content of the article was trying to say. Here’s an excerpt of the original article that best defines what to expect from it when you read it yourselves;

Among the biggest names we found were Rockstar’s Sam Houser (Obama), Spore designer Will Wright (McCain) and Ultima designer (and space traveler) Richard Garriott (Hillary Clinton).

As I said, I looked more at what the article was skewing towards more than what the content was saying as I thought more about it, and I had a realization: This is something that really shouldn’t be touched.

I’m not about to say GamePolitics.com did a poor job with the article, it’s a great article without any real opinion, and just says what their research found, but this kind of thing shouldn’t matter.

Rob and I both agreed a while back that we need to make sure religion and politics in any kind of skewed or hostile manner needs to be kept off of TGM, and we’re going to hold to that for this reason: Gaming as such is an escape for many of us, we use it to take ourselves away from the annoyances of the real world to have a bit of “me” time, for others it’s a lifestyle in which they dedicate themselves to their practice. There’s nothing wrong with a website or group putting forth political material, but at the same time this site is dedicated to politics in gaming, which is where my disagreement comes from.

Let’s let the gaming exec’s, as much as some of us may dislike some of the things they do, have their privacy. These aren’t public officials or members of congress running for office, they’re just businessmen trying to do what they can to support what they believe in, as we all would like to.

As an addendum, please keep in mind I’ve written this knowing that I can’t even stand to see Sarah Palin, and understands that we all have our biases, which is why the choices of these game exec’s, unless they break the law, should probably stay private. This has been another Baseless Opinion.
