Star Blaster Mikomi.infoAs many PS3 and Wii owners probably know, you can play free video games on your browsers on your respective consoles, provided the browser can handle the proper requirements and such. Mikomi.info is an independent developer keenly aware of this, as they design their free-to-play, browser based games so not only Mac and PC owners can play the games, but so console gamers can type in the website and play along as well. The company’s previous title, Warrior Quest, was sort-of a RPG and did get quite a few PS3 and Wii players’ attention.

Mikomi.info’s latest game is Star Blaster, and once again it is a Flash based game you can quickly play and enjoy in a browser. It is much more simplistic than Warrior Quest, but I honestly think that’s what makes it better. Its a shooting game somewhat similar to Asteroids or Space Invaders. You charge up a beam, which makes the red target circle get larger. Once you’ve gotten it as large as you can, without having an alien touch you, you position it over one or more of the aliens careening across the screen. Then, you release the shot and destroy the aliens. After you shoot, remaining aliens speed up, so you have to time things properly. There’s a certain quota for each stage, and if you do well you can even submit your score to the leaderboard.

I only played Star Blaster in my laptop’s browser, but it was a way to kill time while being entertained. Initially, its easy to play, but it gets more difficult as you go on. Mikomi.info states that Wii users can use the remote to charge and fire shots, which I think would definitely make the game more worthwhile. If you have five or ten minutes and nothing to do, Star Blaster may be worth a quick look.
