Sex Changes for Fifteen Bucks Up Front; Satisfaction not Guarenteed

World of Warcraft has finally jumped the shark. They are now offering sex changes, amongst other cosmetic changes, for a nominal fee of fifteen dollars, as described in this Kotaku article, from the account management screen on their website.
This is insane, is Blizzard really that desparate for money, or did they finally give in to all the half-wits and forum kiddies begging for this, amongst other things? Just another reason I’m glad I don’t play World of Warcraft anymore. Good luck to them, but this is really low in my opinion, and that’s all I have to say about that.

Never before have I played a Wii game where I simply *forgot* that I was playing it on the Wii. Dead Space Extraction, the prequel to the hit 360 game, Dead Space, did just that. From beginning to end, Extraction takes the look and feel of the original and makes the amazing transition to the underpowered Nintendo console in such a way that it loses nothing and gains so much more.![ss36[1] ss36[1]](http://www.thegeekmedia.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/ss361-300x125.jpg)
Wait what?
Do you think that it’s a bad thing that they are making you able to redesign your character? Because of what?
I won’t do it but why shouldn’t Blizzard make this available for those who want to do it?
I just think they’re selling out to the whiners and vocal minority in this area. They’re trying to make a cheap buck and taking even more weight off of how you’re known on your server. You can go and change your name, looks, anything whenever you like. You have a reputation, everyone does based on their name, title, guild, and looks wherever they go, and this removes that kind of accountability completely.
No that is very correct.
The majority of people who do play WoW would probably not pay for this. But those who are so darn tired of that nelf back that they are willing to pay for it should have the opportunity.
And while it is true that you can throw away your old identity. There is a very, very small minority who will change their complete look because of this. The majority of those who will do this change will do it because they want to change their looks, not their identity.
Allow me to retort.
I think this is actually a good thing. I mean think about it? You’ve played the same toon for 4 years and you’re getting sick of how he looks. 4 years is a hell of a long time a far as MMOs go. 4 years ago I thought the snarling Night Elf Face was awesome. Now I think it looks like hell. I’m not going to relevel a character just because I hate the way my character looks. Or an other example: You were a young horny teen and you had to have that hawt human female. But you’re older now and think, I really like the male animations a lot better. Bam! Easy $15 and you can do that.
Jumping the Shark is pulling what SOE did with Star Wars Galaxies, this is hardly that. Hell now that I think about it, in SWG you could just have an “image designer” change your looks in game. So this isn’t an all together novel idea.
I mean we can’t change race or class. So it’s juts purely a cosmetic thing.
