Google And Private User Data - Double Standard?
It appears that Google can’t seem to keep how they handle user data straight. Cyndy Aleo-Carreira from Profy.com has been researching the whole decision in the case of YouTube/Google/Viacom case and has found some interesting double standards that could cause Google to trip over their own legal maneuvers.
In the article, it is said that Google aserts that they should not have to turn over the near 12 Terabytes of user data due to the fact that the user IP addresses are considered private user information. However, back in February, Google’s own Privacy Policy Blog stated that…
“the IP addresses recorded by every website on the planet without additional information should not be considered personal data, because these websites usually cannot identify the human beings behind these number strings.”
It would appear that Google’s left hand doesn’t know what it’s right hand is doing.

This is not comflicting at all. Read it again. “IP addresses recorded by every website on the planet without additional information”… Meaning without any names or locations or such.
