Influenced by Aphex Twin, Coldplay, Autechre, Sigur Ros and many others, Iuengliss strives to fill the body and soul with warmth, passion, and complex explosionary vibrations.

Artist Review: Maduro

Maduro - Juno Wakes coverIt’s time to once again combine two of my loves – tribal fusion belly dancing, and music. >a href=”http://www.octofoil-records.com”>Octofoil Records recording artist Maduro takes care of both in one.

Maduro’s songs are able to transport you to a different time in your head. Songs like “Glass Eaters” take you back in time with visions of harems, sultans, and popular myths about the middle east. “Bitten” invokes a post apocalyptic setting that pulls you right into a Cyber Punk game.

Maduro’s fusion of electronic music, world beats, and middle eastern influence creates a dark and earthy sound that you will not find anywhere else.

Burger King’s Star Trek glasses, kids toys

Section: Gaming News, Features, Collecting, Nostalgia, Gear, Figures & Toys, Ads & Media, Movies, TV, Advertisements

burger king star trek movie promotion toys kids meal enterpriseIt’s another groovy kids meal promotion, this time for the recently released Star Trek movie, now in theaters.

The promotion is through Burger King and includes 16 kids meal toys, each with its own sound effect, and four boxed drinking glasses. The drinking glasses, which each come in a colorful box, are $1.99 each with purchase and one toy is included free in each kids’ meal. Some restaurants do let you buy the toys separately but you might want to ask the price before you buy since some simply charge the meal price.

The four glasses include Spock, James Kirk, Uhura and Nero. They don’t make any noise (unless you can do that finger-on-the-ring tone thing). As for the toys, half are objects (ships and such) and half are big-headed characters. All the toys make a sound effect or emit a quote from the movie. They include (with respective sound effect in parens):

  1. Spock (“A rescue attempt would be illogical”)
  2. Hover Bike (“Vroom”)
  3. Uhura (“Captain, we’re being hailed.”)
  4. Captain Kirk (“Kirk to enterprise”)
  5. Enterprise (“Whoosh”)
  6. Chekov (“Ensign Chekov Pavel Andreivich, sir”)
  7. U.S.S. Kelvin (“Red Alert!”)
  8. Tricorder (“Stardate 2248.42”)
  9. Scotty (“I’m giving it all she’s got, Captina”)
  10. Communicator (“Beam me up”)
  11. Sulu (“Warp 3, sir”)
  12. Bones (“I’m a doctor, not a physicist”)
  13. Original Spock (“Live long and prosper”)
  14. Warbird (“Zoom”)
  15. Spock’s Ship (“You’re gonna be able to fly this thing, right?”)
  16. Shuttle (“Approaching Drop Zone”)

Check the Photo Gallery for images of all the toys and scans of the BK bags (photos of the glasses coming soon) and laugh at this crazy Burger Kingon (get it?) ad:

Because We All Want to be a DJ

DJ HeroNormally, I don’t post too much about video games here on Frequency-E. However, this recent piece of news was something that caught my eye considering how much electronic music pulses through these pages. Activision has already taken care of people with dreams of being a Rock Star with Guitar Hero. Now, they are nurturing the dreams of would-be turn table jockeys all over the world. DJ Hero was announced this past week as an upcoming game from Activision.

Few details about DJ Hero have been released as of yet. We do know some well known DJs will be taking part in the game. DJ Shadow was seen at SXSW with a DJ Hero banner behind him, and Z-Trip is also confirmed. Rumors of DJ Tiesto and Daft Punk taking part in the game’s music have not been confirmed yet.

DJ Hero will feature hip-hop, R&B, electronica and dance music genres. Activision also promises that “DJs” will be able to create original mixes using the turntable controllers. Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero were also announced for release this past week.
