Section: Gaming News, Features, Gift Guide, Consoles, Wii

ecost offer header gamertell wii fr 99 dollars
Yeah, you read that headline right. Discount electronics site eCost has an awesome Black Friday offer appropriately named the Outrageous Offer.

According to the graphic, the site will be offering one Wii each hour for US$99 starting at 8:00 a.m. (EST), November 28, 2008. The Wii comes with Wii Sports, sensor bar, stand, a WiiMote and a Nunchuck. The graphic indicates that eCost estimates that only 10 Wiis will be sold at that price.

The s-Wii-t deal (sorry, had to do it) will be available in the Bargain Countdown section of the site. Deals on eCost are often limited by either the amount of items and time, thus a countdown for bargains.

The site has had some decent deals over the years including many free items (I’ve “purchased” a multicard reader and USB WiFi adapter for $0.00 – or “free-ninety-nine, as I like to call it – from eCost in the past). Right now, for example, there’s a 2GB DDR2 SDRAM for $10 (regularly $39.99). The site does charge shipping on top of special offers so be sure to check the details when ordering.

The site also promises to have other Outrageous Offers as indicated by a tiny icon: ecost outrageous offer icon The Wii deal has yet to be promoted on the site’s home page but was sent to newsletter subscribers today (November 25, 2008).

The Guild coming to Xbox Live, sponsored by Microsoft

Section: Gaming News, PCs, Ads & Media, Web, Genres, MMO, Role-Playing

Felicia DayJust in case you missed its excellent debut season in 2007, The Guild is an online sitcom focused on a group of MMORPG players and the problems that their guild faces both in the (unspecified) game and in the real world. The show won both YouTube’s and Yahoo’s Best Web Series awards for 2007.

After turning down sponsorship offers for more than a year due to incompatible ideas, show creator and star Felicia Day (known for her roles as Vi on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Penny on Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog) today (November 24, 2008) announced via her personal blog that the show has been picked up by Microsoft.

Xbox Live’s Scott Nocas approached Felicia with what she describes as “amazing ideas” and an “incredible understanding of the show and the space.” The result was official sponsorship from both Microsoft and its mobile partner Sprint that ensures future distribution of the series via Xbox Live.

Rather than appearing solely on The Guild’s official website — which has been redesigned and can be found at WatchTheGuild.com — Season 2 episodes will air every two weeks, first on Xbox Live and then on MSN Video and the Zune Marketplace.

The first episode of Season 2 will be made available free of charge from tomorrow (November 25, 2008) in high definition on the independent Video section of the newly-launched Xbox Experience. You can find a teaser video and trailer for the entire season on WatchTheGuild.com

Section: Gaming News, Features, Rumors

tomb raider underworld screen shot

Oh Edios, will you guys ever learn? A majority of gamers still remember the mess that was dubbed “Gerstmanngate” after former executive editor, Jeff Gerstmann, was allegedly fired over his negative review of Eidos’ Kane & Lynch game. Opinions were all over the map about the incident and it looks as though debaters will have another incident with the premise that Eidos – or at least Eidos’ PR company – is trying to get reviewers to hold negative reviews of Tomb Raider Underworld until this upcoming Monday (November 24, 2008), days after the game launch (November 21, 2008). Pre Black Friday online deals at Walmart

Wamart holiday deals
If you’re not interested in waking up at 5 am and battling insane crowds, but you still want in on tremendous Black Friday deals on games, Walmart has your number. The store’s online site is now offering a variety of pre-Black Friday deals, including a 2 for $30 Wii game deal and a similar 2 for $30 DS game offer. The best part – it’s not all shovelware, as quality titles like Resident Evil 4 and Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz for Wii and Sonic Rush and Puzzler Collection on the DS making the cut. There’s crap too, of course, but trust your gamer instincts and you’ll be fine.

There’s also an exorbitant Wii bundle, but I’d steer clear, unless you’re desperate for some holiday Wii action. The deals are good through the end of the month – so get shopping if you’re interested!

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix release dates confirmed

Section: Gaming News, Consoles, PS3, Xbox-360, Updates, Playstation-Store, Xbox-Live

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix screen shot

That was fast. The earlier announcement of the Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix “branded experience” that is up as of yesterday (November 19, 2008) on Xbox Live hinted that the game would release on the Xbox Live Arcade on November 26, 2008. We assumed that the PlayStation Network release would follow a day later but not anymore.

In a press release just sent out by Capcom, the company has confirmed that the XBLA version will in fact launch on the November 26, 2008, with the PSN version launching one day prior, marking the game’s release on November 25, 2008, (next Tuesday) instead of the usual PSN release day (next Thursday).

The release dates were confirmed as a part of Capcom’s “Season of Street Fighter,“ it’s celebration of the game’s release. The “season” promises to bring in a variety of downloadable content, as well as musical tracks, and of course, the “newly revamped digital destination points” such as the all new “branded destination” and the Capcom Storefront on PSN.

1UP dived a little further into the DLC saying that the PlayStation Network will receive a hip-hop inspired soundtrack that will be downloadable for free. For the Xbox 360 fighters, Pinball FX already has its Street Fighter themed table while Uno will receive “power move” cards.

And we promise this is the last time we will talk about the game short of a review.

Little Magician’s Magic Adventure Magic Academy enrollment begins in February ‘09

Section: Gaming News, Handhelds, DS, Game-Companies, Developers, Publishers, Genres, 3D, Role-Playing, Sim

Little Magician's Magic AdventureBack in July 2008, Gamertell first reported on Konami’s forthcoming Animal Crossing/magic sim called Little Magician’s Magic Adventure. Now that the February 2009 release date creeps ever closer, more information on the actual gameplay of this new DS sim has been released.

Little Magician’s Adventure may seem like an Animal Crossing clone at first glance, due to the character design similarities and the ability to live in the Magic Academy town filled with other unusual characters and students. But, Little Magician’s Adventure has a sense of purpose, as opposed to Animal Crossing‘s main goal of paying off Tom Nook. In Little Magician’s Magic Adventure, you customize your character and its home with over 1,500 items, you can make friends with 150 different NPCs, learn magic spells and undertake 52 quests.

The Nintendo WiFi Connection aspect also sounds interesting. The press release almost makes it sound like you can go on quests with friends. It also seems to encorporate some kind of chat program, as the press release mentions a global magic alphabet that will let you talk with people around the world.

Personally, I’m in. I love Animal Crossing, but sometimes get bored. After a while, it feels like you’ve done everything. A game like Little Magician’s Magic Adventure, where a life sim is incorporated with actual goals and missions, sounds like a wonderful change of pace.
