The WotLK Crapematic – 8.21.2008

What crap . I mean, ya it looks pretty and sounds great, but Blizzard cinematics always do. This is one of the most boring cinematics I’ve ever seen Blizzard put out. They should be embarrassed by it. We don’t need to see Arthas in every minute of every Blizzard cinematic. We know his story, we don’t need to hear it yet again. Where were new player abilities in the cinematic? Where were the Death Knights (besides Arthas of course)? Where was the catch phrase? Where were there any varieties of races and classes? I only saw three things. Arthas/Lich King (wow, haven’t seen that before), a Frost Wyrm (okay, so that was new and kinda cool), and a horde of generic Scourge soldiers (BORING). I wanted to see a few Death Knight’s fighting Nerubians in Azjol-Nerub as they make their way to Anub’arak. I wanted to see an Orc Warrior utilizing Titan’s Grip. I wanted to see Tirion Fordring wielding the Ashbringer and leading a charge of Paladins into a demon infested area. etc. It just seems to me that Blizzard looked at everything that we like in the cinematics and took it out. My final grade? 4/10 King Terenas’ monologue “saved” it from being a complete pile of crap. -Matt Graham

Photography is a Crime?

This is a story that you just can’t make up. We were first alerted to this blog post by a few others on the social web. As time has gone on, the story is beginning to make it’s rounds. It’s really a surprising one to read.

We’ll sum it up for you. Basically, an art lover and photographer bought a new membership at SFMOMA after they said on their site they were allowing pictures to be taken in the museum. The patron was forcibly ejected from the museum being told he could not take pictures. Even though he tried to explain, he was still treated horribly and ejected from the museum.

Baseless Opinion: The Unsellable Digg

digg-logo-heart-lgToday I am introducing a new article series I will be writing called “Baseless Opinion” where I will talk about things that I honestly have no real business talking about but will still talk about anyway, after all that is how the internet works.

For this article I will be talking about everyone’s favorite social news mash-up Digg.com. Recently there were rumors of Digg potentially being acquired by everyone’s favorite internet search monster, Google.com. Kevin Rose, founder and chief architect of Digg, outright denied the rumors as being anywhere close to truth, but that didn’t stop the internet from being the internet and going on and on about the acquisition regardless.  Continue reading via the link below.

Crytek CEO Estimates 20 PC Game Pirates for every 1 Legitimate PC Gamer

[Source: ShackNews]

ShackNews is reporting that Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crytek, estimated that PC gaming piracy currently could potentially be around 15:1 to 20:1.  Thats 15 to 20 PC game pirates for every 1 legitimate PC gamer.

“It’s crazy how the ratio between sales to piracy is probably 1 to 15 to 1 to 20 right now,” Yerli told IGN. “For one sale there are 15 to 20 pirates and pirate versions, and that’s a big shame for the PC industry.”

Yerli added that he hoped to see some change with the release of Crytek’s upcoming shooter follow-up Crysis Warhead. When asked if the game would include anti-piracy measures similar to Electronic Arts’ activation protocols in the PC edition of BioWare’s Mass Effect, the CEO didn’t directly specify but hinted at some new ideas.

“Effectively, if the game isn’t an online game or multiplayer game—there are challenges regardless of what you do—the game can be cracked. The effort is to make it more difficult to crack, and certainly we’re going to make it more difficult this time with Warhead.”
