David Hasslehoff in Pain

On November 6, 2008,Pain, the Playstation Network (PSN) downloadable title that lets you injure people to pulps, will be getting a movie-themed expansion pack that will finally allow players to do the one thing everyone tells us not to: hassle the Hoff.

That’s right kids, David Hasslehoff will be one of many characters placing their life er, destruction of life at your hands, reports People magazine. But don’t think the Hoff is going to let players off that easy.

As a bonus in game track players will be able forced to listen to his rendition of Culture Club’s “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?”

The new movie-themed expansion has been dubbed “Movie Studio” and includes a few more features:

  • More than one launcher location (There are three that you can dynamically switch to)
  • Single-Player Fun with Explosives
  • New Cratetastic Mode
  • Unlockable FREE Character
  • HORSE Mode
  • Bowling Mode (With all new distractions)

As of yet, there is no price info. Wait, is he flying in that illustration?

Drinkolic Helps You Make the Perfect Drink

Some beverages that contain distilled alcohol.
Technology is wonderful. Only technology could bring together tons of people who don’t mind throwing a few back, without them having to leave their house. Drinkolic brings the drinking expertise of many and presents it in a big list of recipes.
While it is not a social network (unlike most of the new guys lately) it is a nice portal to login, rate and make comments on just about any drink thats not bound by a trademark. The entries for the drinks are sorted by recipe, glassware served in, or ingredients involved so you could stumble over your favorite recipe at random.
Since it is a site all about drinking, it does not leave out the folks that do not drink alcohol. Drinkolic features Non-Alcoholic cocktails, milkshakes (just one for now since most of the content is user generated), coffees, and teas. One quick warning though, considering the names of many of the beverages have been coined by drunk people, this site is mostly NSFW.
A lovely addition to the option of listing recipes and posting photos is the option to add video of the drink being made. Right now the video content is restricted to youtube videos, but that will probably not limit the findings too much. If you like beverages you should check out drinkolic. Don’t let the simple design of the site fool you, there is lots of useful information in there.

Wii Music launch event not much of a party

Wii Music party Hardcore gamers who scoffed at Nintendo’s hilariously bad demo for Wii Music at E3 are probably going to get a kick out of this. Apparently, the launch party for Wii Music didn’t have the turnout that Nintendo expected. 1Up reported that the event was pretty dead, and compared it to the frenzy of the Super Mario Galaxy launch party. It seems that Nintendo has either missed the boat with casual crowds (this would be a first) or that perhaps it was just a bad time for a party. The extreme cynic in me wonders whether this could be a sign of waning interest in this sort of wacky casual Wii title, but it’s far, far to early to tell that.

I almost feel a little bit bad about this, considering that the game has actually received some very positive reviews – it looks like a very fun little casual game. I wonder where the Big N went wrong with this one.

Capcom gets its own Playstation Network store

Section: News, Consoles, PS3, Handhelds, PSP

Capcom PSN Store

How does Sony say thank you for your awesome productivity and quality of digital downloads? By giving you your own storefront on the Playstation Store.

That’s what Sony has recently granted Capcom, publishers of the highly praised Mega Man 9 and Bionic Commando: Rearmed. The storefront will go online in November 2008 and will catalog all of Capcom’s downloads in the one place.

“Out of all of the third-party companies making use of the digital space, [Sony] recognizes Capcom is one of the best partners for content,” said John Diamonon, product manager on all Capcom digital titles told Edge.

Christian Svensson, VP of business development and strategic planning for Capcom added that “…Sony’s taking advantage of, in a very real way, one of the benefits of digital, in that there are multiple ways to sort, search and put things in front of people. In a physical store, that physical object can only exist in one physical space. With digital, that object can be highlighted in about 20 different ways.”

This is only the first of what Sony is hoping to be many “publisher portals” that will allow users to find downloads easier by simply picking the publisher or developer. Users already have the option to search content by: Top Downloads, Genres, and New Releases. These “publisher portals” will allow shoppers to more easily find quality titles by visiting that publisher’s store where that publishers games will be allocated. As of now there is no announcement for price changes on titles.

On the subject of Microsoft’s Xbox Live Arcade giving the same treatment to publishers, Svennsson added: “As far as Microsoft goes – how can I say this diplomatically – there are things I think they’d like to do to promote content in multiple ways, and I think they’ll get there eventually… but they’re not there yet.”

No More Hereos 2 not coming until 2010

Section: News, Consoles, Wii, Genres, 3D, Action

Desperate Struggle

Even though it was teased at this year’s Tokyo Game Show, the collaboration between Marvelous Entertainment and Grasshopper Manufacture will not hit North American shores until early 2010.

No More Hereos 2 was only shown in a very brief trailer and pretty much the only info on it is that the series will remain on the Wii and it will have the subtitle: No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle. The news of the late release comes from a Japanese PDF document released by Marvelous Entertainment and picked up by Siliconera.

Siliconera reports the sequel will come to North America sometime in January 2010 and will be released later in Europe, around February or March 2010, and will receive two versions: mild (less violent) and standard (normal violence). What’s even more interesting is that Siliconera points out the lack of a Japanese release date or time frame.

The first game, No More Heroes, was received poorly in Japan only selling around 10,000 copies on it’s first day of release. While this doesn’t mean Japan won’t see a release (it’s Japan after all), it makes you wonder how much the importance of launching territories has shifted places. A running theme at this year’s TGS was how Japanese game development was falling behind Western development with many significant Japanese industry players admitting to the problem.

We’ll share the info on No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle as it is released.

LiitleBigPlanet now shipping October 27, amid delay controversy

Section: News, Consoles, PS3, Ads & Media, Game-Companies, Developers, Publishers, Updates, Game-Content

Sackboy

As we reported earlier, PS3 platformer/game creation tool LittleBigPlanet suffered from an emergency delay this week, once it was discovered that some game content was offensive to Muslims. We had no official word on the release date until now – when the PlayStation blog announced that the game will ship on October 27, 2008. Thankfully, it’s a fairly minor delay, but damage to Sony’s reputation among Middle Eastern gamers has probably already been done.

It’s not a very happy situation, but at the very least, the delay won’t be very long at all. PS3 gamers will be able to build and share their creations with the world starting a week from Monday.
