iPhone developers can now openly share and open source the code for their Apps as of Wednesday as Apple has removed the Non-Disclosure Agreement that prevented them from not only sharing their code but from even discussing a majority (if not the entirety) of the software development kit (SDK).

We put the NDA in play because the iPhone OS includes many Apple inventions and innovations that we would like to protect…   However, the NDA has created too much of a burden on developers, authors and others interested in helping further the iPhone’s success, so we are dropping it for released software.

WordPress, a popular blogging software package, released the source code for their iPhone app some time ago.  This brought up a number of questions as to the legality.  As far as those outside of the WordPress group knew, Apple hadn’t contacted WordPress to have the code removed due to NDA violations.  With the NDA lifted, WordPress and any other developer of iPhone software will no longer have to worry about being prevented from sharing the source code to their work.
